Force Crag Mine Open Days 2017

The remaining 2017 Open Day is:
  • Saturday 9 September
Force Crag Mine, near Keswick, was the last mineral mine worked in the Lake District, production ceasing in 1990. The National Trust offer a guided tour to explore the processing mill and surrounding remains. The tour takes about 1 hour, all tickets are 6 and transport up to the site is provided.

One of our members has drawn our attention to a lecture by Royal Geographical Society president Nicholas Crane (he of 'Coast') to mark the 125th anniversary of geography at the University of Manchester. Earth Science Week 2017: "Our Restless Earth"

Earth Science Week is an annual event organised by the Geological Society. The theme of Earth Science Week 2017 is "Our Restless Earth", and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the theory of plate tectonics. The event follows the William Smith Meeting 2017, "Plate Tectonics at 50", at the Geological Society on 3-5 October 2017.
